On August, 10 Vrboska celebrates St. Lawrence – a pupil of Pope Sixtus II who, thanks to his his youthful virtues and especially to his innocence, loved Lawrence as a father loves his favourite son, and although young, Sixtus included Lawrence amongst the seven notable Roman deacons. The pope literally told him:
“The Lord has had pity on me as I am a weak old man, but he chose you to celebrate victory."
