Although this is the youngest of Šolta's villages, the history of Nečujam dates back to ancient times. Nečujam consists of a sequence of bays with a total length of 1.8 km. This, according to many people is the most beautiful bay on the island, and became famous following the visit by the Roman emperor Diocletian who ordered a fish pond to be built; it is also the place where Marko Marulić, father of the Croatian literature, was inspired to write his greatest epic poem, Judita.
Today, Nečujam is a tourist village with apartments and weekend houses and is one of the favourite tourist destinations on the island.
