The Fortification with a tower on the islet of Gomilica
Dalmatian fortress with a tower in Gomilica

In 1545, the Benedictine nuns built a fortress on the islet of Gomilica which consisted of a defence wall and a tower which was entered across a movable bridge. The tower is situated on the northern part of the city walls whilst the southern part was reachable by boat, from the gateway which is still protected today.
