The village of Bast is part of the Baška Voda municipality whilst the centre of Baška Voda is just 3 km away. Even back in ancient times, Bast was an important village situated on the slopes of mount Biokovo, right by the drinking water spring. Following persecution by the Turks, the Bast inhabitants descended from the St. Ilija cliff slopes in the 18th century and arrived at the coast. So it could be said that Bast was the mountain precursor of Baška Voda.
